Here’s a picture of Phytoplankton. I just read that although these single-cell organisms account for half of the earths photosynthetic productivity, yet only account for 1% of the planet’s biomass. Apparently, there are various schemes around the world to test increasing their abundance as a carbon sink, but rises in ocean acidification is a threat to their existence. Time to make a little more room in our hearts for single celled gloop. (The Emerald Planet, Beerling 2007)
